Frequently asked questions
How do I submit a referral?
Referrals can be submitted by phone, fax, or through our digital referral form. Call our referral hotline at 512.327.7000, submit digitally via the form on this page, or fax your referral to the number above. Our referral coordinator will confirm receipt and contact your patient within one business day.
What happens after I submit a referral?
Once we receive your referral, our team will contact the patient to schedule an appointment. You will receive confirmation that the referral was received and a summary report following the patient’s visit.
What is your typical appointment turnaround time?
Routine referrals are typically scheduled within one to two weeks. Urgent or semi-urgent cases can often be accommodated sooner — please indicate urgency when submitting the referral or call our coordinator directly.
How does co-management work?
Texan Eye actively partners with referring optometrists for pre- and post-operative co-management of cataract, LASIK, and other surgical patients. We will communicate the surgical plan and send timely reports following each visit. Your patient returns to your care after the global period.
Which location should I refer my patients to?
We have four locations across Austin and Cedar Park. In most cases, we recommend referring to the location closest to your patient. Surgical procedures are performed at our dedicated Central Surgery Office at 7000 N Mopac Expy #145, Austin, TX 78731.
How do I get updates on my referred patients?
We send a consultation and/or surgical summary to the referring provider following each patient visit. If you need a status update or have a question about a specific patient, please contact your referral coordinator directly.
Do you accept all insurance plans?
Texan Eye accepts most major medical and vision insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicare Advantage plans. We recommend confirming your patient’s specific coverage before the referral is submitted. Our team can assist with benefit verification if needed.
